EASY OPERATION
(Available on all models)
The hassle of “programming the VCR” is now definitely a complaint of the past. With
Pioneer’s DVD recorders, an easy GUI simplifies the operation through
visualisation. To start a recording or playback previously recorded material, it just
takes a few flicks of the remote control. Even editing, archiving and tracing a
specific section is a snap thanks to the “easy” attitude of Pioneer’s DVD recorders.
1.5x VIEW SCAN
When fast forwarding or rewinding during DVD playback, it is often very difficult
— if not impossible — to understand what is being said. 1.5 View Scan allows the
user to play back a recording at 1.5 times its normal speed, while keeping the sound
accurate. This handy feature makes it possible to easily trace a very specific scene,
or to watch a recorded programme more quickly and still understand the dialogue.
DISC HISTORY
Pioneer DVD recorders make finding available disc space before recording a
cinch. By pressing the “Disc History” button on the remote control, the on-
screen GUI gives you a complete overview of the free recording space on up to
30 archived discs. Discs do not need to be individually inserted and reviewed to
check for space or to locate a previously
recorded title for playback.

TOUCH ‘N GO OPERATION
All Pioneer DVD recorders automatically scan previously recorded content on an
inserted disc and start recording at the first available location. This eliminates the
possibility of accidental overwrites. One tap on the “REC” button and recording
starts. Multiple taps on the “REC” button allow you to set the recording time in
multiples of 30 minutes (max. 6 hours). It couldn’t be easier.
AUTO MODE
Thanks to the Auto mode, the recording mode (EP, LP, SP, FINE) is automatically
adjusted to fit within 4.7 GB — the normal capacity of a DVD disc. This feature is
very convenient when making a high-speed copy.
With the easy-to-use GUI, users can
highlight the 15 minute time slots they
wish to record, using the on-screen
cursor operated via the remote control.

TWO CONVENIENT RECORDING MODES
FOR DISC RECORDING
Both official DVD Forum recording formats, ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’
and ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’ are based on MPEG compression
technology for real-time recording of high quality images. With Pioneer’s new
DVD recorders, it is possible to record from one to six hours of material in both
‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’ and ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’,
depending on the desired picture quality. The recording quality (compression
rate) can be selected using one of four presets for 1 (FINE), 2 (SP), 4 (LP), or
6 (EP) hours of recording. It is also possible to set the compression rate
manually using 32 steps (from 1 to 32).
❚ ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’
With ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’ recording, it is possible to record from
1 to 6 hours on one DVD-R or DVD-RW. Discs recorded in this mode can be
viewed on many existing DVD-Video playback systems. After a DVD-R/
DVD-RW disc is finalised in ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’, the system
creates a menu with selectable thumbnail images to access recorded
programmes on a compatible DVD-Video playback system. It is also possible
to record additional material on a finalised DVD-RW disc recorded in ‘Video
Mode (DVD Video Mode)’. By selecting “Undo Finalize” more material can be
recorded if space allows.
❚ ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’
Using DVD-RW discs, it’s possible to record 1 to 6 hours depending on the
desired picture quality. It’s a stellar combination of variable bit rate recording
with the best matching resolution — and additionally allows for advanced
editing. Playback is on “RW Compatible” players.
