DVD RECORDERS

EASY RECORDING FROM A VARIETY OF SOURCES
With all Pioneer DVD recorders, users can record from a digital camcorder*,
transfer their existing videotape to DVD, and record high quality TV. All new
models also feature PAL/NTSC recording, and the built-in tuner is compatible
with all European broadcasting systems. With PAL/NTSC recording, you can
record either PAL or NTSC format onto DVD discs. With the HDD DVD Recorders,
it is possible to store both PAL/NTSC formats on the Hard Disk Drive.
* The DVR-220-S has an analogue input only.
Record from an analogue built-in TV tuner (PDC/VPS/ShowView)
Pioneer DVD recorders enable smooth recording from terrestrial or cable TV.
They record digital broadcasts from a connected set-top box or TV with
integrated digital tuner. Using the ShowView number of the ShowView
®
system,
the time and channel settings, recording date, start, and stop are set
automatically for recordings using the built-in tuner. This way it is simple to
programme up to 32 TV shows even one month in advance. If the PDC/VPS
programming system is used, 8 programmes are programmable in this
timeframe. PDC/VPS (Programme Delivery Control/Video Programming System)
means users are sure to catch the beginning and end of their favourite show or
movie (only if it is included by the broadcaster).
All new Pioneer DVD recorders feature a built-in TV tuner that supports every
European broadcasting system.
Record from a digital camcorder (DV In/Out Terminal)
(Not available on the DVR-220-S)
Dubbing from digital sources to the Hard Disk Drive or DVD discs is a
simple matter of connecting a digital video camcorder to the DV IN/OUT
connector on the front of the DVD recorder. The user-friendly remote
— combined with Pioneer’s easy-to-use GUI — controls both machines
for dubbing, playback, pause, fast forward and rewind. To temporarily restore
homemade DVDs to the camcorder, the user just plugs into the DV IN/OUT
connector. Users can also copy material from their camcorder directly onto a
DVD-R/DVD-RW disc. Or they can first copy material onto the Hard Disk Drive
and then —using Pioneer’s Copy List function— copy only desired sections of the
homemade movie onto a DVD-R/DVD-RW disc. One DV cable inputs/outputs A/V
data and control signals.
The DV IN/OUT can also be connected to a DV deck (some models of
camcorders/decks may not be supported).
* The i.LINK interface is also known as IEEE1394. Firewire is a trademark. “i.LINK” and the
“i.LINK” logo are trademarks.
Recording Formats and Playback Compatibility:
“DVD-Video format” recording: The use of the DVD-Video format for recording on DVD-R and
DVD-RW discs is referred to as recording in ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’ on Pioneer’s DVD
Recorders. Supporting playback of DVD-R/DVD-RW discs is optional for manufacturers of DVD
playback equipment, and there is DVD-Video playback equipment that does not play DVD-R or
DVD-RW discs recorded in the DVD-Video format.
Note: “finalization” is required.
“Video Recording (VR) format” recording: The use of the VR format for recording on DVD-RW discs
is referred to as recording in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’ on Pioneer’s DVD Recorders.
DVD-RW discs recorded in the VR format can be played back on Pioneer’s and other companies
players that feature the “RW Compatible” indication.
Record from Analogue A/V Sources
Users who own a regular VCR or analogue camcorder are covered. They can
ensure that there is no further deterioration of their favourite movies and
memories by simply connecting to their DVD recorder for beautiful digitally
recorded versions.

EASY EDITING (Available on all models)
NUMEROUS EDITING FUNCTIONS IN ‘VR MODE (DVD VIDEO RECORDING MODE)’ ON DVD-RW DISCS
Pioneer’s GUI lets users call up the Disc Navigator screen to access advanced editing functions such as Erase, Chapter Edit,
Erase Section and Undo Last Edit*. Disc Navigator allows the user to access the original content and build a Play List based on
that content. They can erase all or part of the original content and free up extra recording time depending on the disc type and
recording mode. The DVD recorder will play back whatever is on the Play List, while preserving the original DVD content order.
* Except Hard Disk Drive.
High-Quality 16-bit/48 kHz Linear PCM Audio Recording
DVD recorders typically use 2.0-channel Dolby Digital compressed audio
encoding. But there may be occasions where the user would like to have an even
better audio quality. With Pioneer’s new DVD recorders, high picture quality with
high audio quality can be combined. When recording using the best quality
recording setting (FINE or “Manual 32”), the audio is recorded in uncompressed
16-bit/48 kHz Linear PCM stereo format. This delivers great sounding audio to
accompany the high picture quality. So don’t worry when the next final of that
international piano contest is being broadcast!
Easy on-screen editing
* For lawful copying only.
