4.5 Mitigating Plasma Screen Burn

If a plasma screen continually shows the same image, there is a danger it burns a permanent impression into the screen.

Screen burn is less likely on LCD panels. You should activate any built-in burn-mitigation feature on your plasma screen.

You can further mitigate the problem by regularly changing the background image or layout. Bear in mind these advisory

points:

If the background image has features that relate to a specific zone (for example, a box around scrolling text), move the

image in conjunction with the zone.

To make a background image move in conjunction with a specific zone, display the background as a number of zones

that together cover the screen. Add the background images to the playlist for each zone.

Locate a foreground and a background zone together by positioning the foreground zone's center exactly above the

background zone's center.

The iCOMPEL also provides a burn mitigation mechanism and you can enable this for any layout. It works by changing the

location of the zones at regular intervals. You can flip zones horizontally or vertically or have them 'orbit' the screen.

If you activate burn mitigation for a layout, you cannot exclude any zones.

To activate plasma burn mitigation:

1. On the menu bar, click Layouts and select the layout.

2. Click the Layout Properties tab.

3. Check the Enable Mitigation box.

4. Choose the scheme:

Mirror Layout Zones Left to Right – Zones swap position along a central horizontal axis.

Mirror Layout Zones Top to Bottom – Zones swap position along a central vertical axis.

Orbit Zones in Layout – Zones rotate around a central point.

5. Choose the time interval.

6. Click the button.

Note: When the iCOMPEL moves zones, it restarts all playlists.

4.6 Changing the Screen Background

When switching between layouts, you can have the iCOMPEL display a colored background or image. It can also display

this background in any areas of a layout that are not covered by zones.

Note: Setting the color to black is not recommended because it makes fault-finding more difficult.

To change the screen background, follow these steps:

1. On the menu bar, click Media and Screen Background.

2. Select either Solid color or Image:

If you select Solid Color, then click the button to select a color.

If you select Image, then browse the file system for an image. If you want a splash screen effect, set the Layout
